Safety on the water
All our boats carry life jackets sized for children, mandatory for the entire crossing. Captains are locals with years of experience navigating these exact routes.
The real thing to plan for: the ride, not the islands
The islands themselves are calm and safe for kids — shallow beaches, no strong surf. The real logistical challenge is the 2.5-3 hour 4x4 ride with a pre-dawn departure. For young children, that can be heavier than the tour itself.
Practical tips
- Bring snacks and water for the 4x4 ride (there are no stores along the way).
- Apply sunscreen before leaving the hotel — the islands don't have much natural shade.
- Consider a day trip instead of an overnight stay for a first family trip, to test the logistics before committing to a full night.
- Let us know in advance if you need a vegetarian option or any special consideration for the kids' lunch.
For families who want more island time
If your family enjoys the first day trip and wants to stay longer, San Blas Tours Panama has a family package built specifically for that.
