San Blas with Kids: A Guide for Families
San Blas is one of the best family-friendly destinations in Panama: shallow waters, white sand, and the thrill of a day on a deserted island. Here’s what you need to know.
Is it safe for kids?
Yes. Life jackets are required and included for all ages, the boats are captained by experienced Guna captains, and the islands we visit have calm, shallow waters that are perfect for little ones.
What’s the minimum age?
We take families with babies, but children ages 4–5 and up tend to enjoy the full experience the most. Keep in mind the early start (5:00 AM) and the 2.5-hour drive on winding roads.
Budget-Friendly Bonus
Children ages 0–9 are exempt from the regional tax. Ask us about children’s rates when booking.
Tips from Parents Who’ve Been There
- Give your child a motion sickness pill (check with your pediatrician) before the 4x4 ride.
- Bring extra snacks and water: lunch is at noon.
- Arm floats for the little ones, in addition to a life jacket.
- A complete change of clothes for the return trip.
- The Natural Pool is the kids’ favorite part: waist-deep water full of starfish (look at them, don’t touch them).
