El Porvenir

Yes, you can visit El Porvenir in a single day. It sits in the Communities area and is included in 1 of our day trips from Panama City, from $135 per person: pickup is around 5:00 am and you are back the same day.

Administrative headquarters of the Guna Yala region, with an airstrip and a museum.

El Porvenir is the administrative seat of Guna Yala, so it works differently from everything else in the comarca: it has an airstrip, offices and a small museum on Guna culture. It is the official gateway to the archipelago.

You do not come here for the beach. You come to understand how the comarca is governed — an autonomous territory with its own authorities — and that is not visible on any white-sand island.

Which tours include El Porvenir

One route reaches this island, and it is the one that sets the price.

What else you see the same day

No day trip stops at just one island. These are the ones that share the morning with El Porvenir.

  • Corbiski An inhabited island where you can observe the daily life of the Guna people among traditional houses.
  • Narganá Connected by a bridge to Corazón de Jesús, the region’s top cultural tourism destination.

Questions about El Porvenir

Can you visit El Porvenir in a single day?

Yes. You leave Panama City around 5:00 am by 4x4, cross into the comarca and continue by boat; you are back the same afternoon. No overnight stay needed.

How much does it cost to reach El Porvenir?

From $135 per person, depending on which of our routes you take. That price already covers the door-to-door 4x4, the boat, lunch and the guide. The only extra is the comarca entrance fee, paid once: $22 for foreigners and $7 for residents, in cash and directly to the Guna community.

How long do you spend on El Porvenir?

A day trip splits the morning and afternoon between the islands on the itinerary, so no single stop lasts all day. If you would rather stay on one island without rushing, message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you which route comes closest.

Why is there an airstrip?

Because this is where Guna Yala is administered: offices, an airfield and a small museum room. It works as the official gateway to the archipelago, which is why it resembles no other stop.

Is the museum worth going into?

It takes a short while to walk through, but it is the only point of the day where somebody explains Guna history calmly. If the group walks past it, go in anyway.
