Isla Diablo is the sand stop. White to the point of hurting without sunglasses, with the water coming in flat and currentless, it is one of the few where you can stay in the sea a long while without fighting the swell or keeping an eye on anyone.

That is why it shows up in so many day itineraries: it works as well for someone who wants to swim as for someone who only wants to sit down. It is not the snorkelling island — Perro Chico, almost next door, is — but the one for a calm swim and the photo of sand against turquoise.

Can you visit Isla Diablo in a single day?

Yes. You leave Panama City around 5:00 am by 4x4, cross into the comarca and continue by boat; you are back the same afternoon. No overnight stay needed.

How much does it cost to reach Isla Diablo?

From $135 per person, depending on which of our routes you take. That price already covers the door-to-door 4x4, the boat, lunch and the guide. The only extra is the comarca entrance fee, paid once: $22 for foreigners and $7 for residents, in cash and directly to the Guna community.

How long do you spend on Isla Diablo?

A day trip splits the morning and afternoon between the islands on the itinerary, so no single stop lasts all day. If you would rather stay on one island without rushing, message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you which route comes closest.

Is it deep, and is there any current?

Neither. The bottom drops away slowly and the water stays still, so you can stay in for a long time without fighting anything. This is the stop for a proper swim; for looking at the seabed there is Perro Chico, a hop away.

Do I need sunglasses even on a cloudy day?

You will want them. It is not the sky that dazzles but the sand, which throws the light straight back up all day. That is why the photos come out so turquoise, and also why people burn under the chin.
