Guna name: Gorginega
Yes, you can visit Isla Pelícano in a single day. It sits in the Limones Keys area and is included in 4 of our day trips from Panama City, from $114 per person: pickup is around 5:00 am and you are back the same day.
A tiny, picture-perfect cay, surrounded by a ring of turquoise water perfect for swimming.
Pelícano is one of the smallest islands on the route: you walk around it in a few minutes. Around it sits a ring of shallow turquoise water, and that is the whole point — the island is almost an excuse to get into the water that wraps it.
Being that small, there is little shade and nowhere to spread out, so it works as a swimming stop rather than an island to spend hours on. It usually comes with Perro Chico and Diablo in the same morning, the classic Cayos Limones trio.
Several routes stop here. What changes is which other islands come with it, and the price.
No day trip stops at just one island. These are the ones that share the morning with Isla Pelícano.
Yes. You leave Panama City around 5:00 am by 4x4, cross into the comarca and continue by boat; you are back the same afternoon. No overnight stay needed.
From $114 per person, depending on which of our routes you take. That price already covers the door-to-door 4x4, the boat, lunch and the guide. The only extra is the comarca entrance fee, paid once: $22 for foreigners and $7 for residents, in cash and directly to the Guna community.
A day trip splits the morning and afternoon between the islands on the itinerary, so no single stop lasts all day. If you would rather stay on one island without rushing, message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you which route comes closest.
A good five minutes and you have seen all of it. What you come for is outside the island: the belt of shallow, clear water around it, where you can stand up twenty metres from the sand.
That is its weak point and we would rather say so: there is barely any cover and barely any room to spread out. Most people end up swimming in a T-shirt. Take it as a swimming stop, not an island to spend the afternoon on.
